Activity:
Web Search - Needs
of the gifted
In this
activity you will use popular
search engines to do your own research on the social-emotional needs of
the gifted.
To
use a search engine successfully, you need the appropriate terms (key
words) or a combination of such terms. As a start, some of the most
useful expressions are provided here:
- emotion:
affection,
agitation, anger, concern, depression, devotion, eagerness, empathy,
excitability, excitement, feeling, flow, grief, gut reaction,
happiness, inspiration, joy, love, mental state, passion, pride, rage,
remorse, responsiveness, sadness, satisfaction, sensation, sensibility,
sentiment, shame, sorrow, sympathy, thrill, zeal
- gifted:
able, artful, brilliant, clever, dexterous, expert, genius, ingenious,
intelligent, proficient, profound, skilled, smart, talented, "whiz
kid", "wonder child"
- highly:
eminently, exceptionally, extraordinarily, extremely, really,
remarkably, profoundly, seriously, supremely
- need:
compulsion, demand, deprivation, inadequacy, lack, longing,
requirement, urge, want, wish
- problem:
difficulty, dilemma, obstacle, quandary, question, trouble, worry
Once
you
have found the key terms you are looking for, type them into the
GOOGLE
search engine:
Remember, if you want to look
for an expression containing
several words, use quotation marks: e.g. "gifted education".
